Default Changing TIM?

I was thinking of changing the TIM on my XFX GTX 260. Would that void my warranty? Should I use AS5 or Tuniq TX-2 (only two I have available)?

Thank you!

EDIT: Thanks for the help! Tuniq TX-2 applied and temps dropped by ~5șC.

No it would not void your warranty go for it, it should drop your temps dramaticaly. i would go with the AS5 but thats just my preferance. ^_^

good luck!

Alright, will do. Should I be worried about AS5 conductivity? I just see a lot of people use Arctic Silver Ceramique.

AS5 is not conductive, but it does have a minor capacitive property.
Be careful and use only a minimal amount of what ever you use.

I read a bit on this and people report only a 1-2șC drop in temperatures. Is that what I would get roughly? Temps under load are 71șC with 70% fan speed or 82șC with 60% fan speed. I also read it could void my warranty, hard to decide right now.

it WONT void your warranty, trust me on this. the drop in temps really depends on how well of a job was done when it was originaly applied, i know few people on ocn who dont replace their stock TIM on graphics cards.

if you're worried about messing up the card, i wouldn't really worry about swapping out the TIM. but if you go through with it, your warranty should be intact, XFX is pretty lenient with warranty coverage.

yes, there will be an improvement. but we're talking about a minor improvement compared to just getting a better cooler. the only time i imagine the improvement would be great is if the manufacturer made an absolute mess applying the TIM in the first place, and that's more of and exception than the rule.

but anyway, great rule to follow when you're concerned about the "health" of a PC component if you're thinking of doing something to it is:
"Are you willing to pay for a replacement if the manufacturer denies a warranty repair/replacement?"

if you can, great. if you can't, weigh the risk v. the gains

I would say it's not worth it unless you're looking to do some serious overclocking. XFX has lifetime warranties, so you shouldn't even care about the health of your card running stock, lol.

Alright, do you know where I can find a guide on how to do this?

I can't really get a better cooler at the moment since I'm saving up for a better case (which should cool my card a bit). But I guess the risk of me messing up is small. Think I'll use Tuniq TX-2 first.

I believe my card, being Core Edition, only has a 2 year warranty.
