Default Hardware problem ??

While playing counter strike source i switched the display type from normal to widescreen in from the video menu ...
As soon as i applied this setting i heard a crackling sound from my monitor and my comp hung..
When i restarted the display became noticably dim and did not get corrected even after re-installing the driver and windows itself ...
Please help me ..
