Hi everyone,
Before I installed driver 163.71, I didn't have a problem with installing and using ntune. Then the thing wouldn't start and kept freezing my computer. So I cleanly uninstalled ntune and reinstalled. Well then it would get to the end and when it would try to start the service, it would just freeze everytime and not complete the installation. Well I heard that ntune was buggy, so I decided to try out atitool since it's supposed to OC nvidia cards as well. It installed fine, but then when I tried to start the program, I got the same result as with ntune, it would just freeze up my computer. I used RivaTuner and all the tests and everything showed my OC was fine, but when I would play a game that used Direct X it would look pixel/grainy and would freeze up and then jump and then freeze up again, over and over. It could be that I set the Direct X settings on it wrong, but no matter what I did, it did the same thing. So now I'm back to square one having removed all those programs and cleanly reinstalled driver 163.71. Is it the driver that is causing all these problems? I've heard that this driver sucks, but I want to be sure it's not something I'm doing wrong. Thanks. Yehonadav |

169.04 is the best driver yet. My frame and performance rates went through the roof with these drivers.

I feel pretty confident saying that yes, it is a driver issue since you said that everything was running smoothly before the update. Go ahead and grab 169.04 and see how it works and if you still run into the same problems just go through the usual Driver Cleaner Pro steps to remove it and install the previous version that worked for you.

It is not the driver that is bad, but nTune itself. Keep it uninstalled, and use RivaTuner and ATiTool in the future. I've used the 163.71's with RivaTuner/ATiTool with no issues, so I have to believe its something else that's gone wrong. Are you sure it was a clean uninstall/reinstall of the drivers using DriverCleaner Pro?

Afzsom has the correct answer (REP+). nTune is garbage and the best thing for your computer would be to uninstall it (and, if it were me, reformat/reinstall the OS).
Try uninstalling the driver through Device Manager; sometimes the Nvidia installer doesn't remove all the old files. Double-check by restarting in safe mode and look for your files in the system32\ and the system32\drivers directories (look for nv* with a date approximately equal to the release date).

Agreed. nTune is pretty terrible but it makes me wonder why all of a sudden it would act up with the new drivers if the problem itself isn't driver related.

Thank you all for your help. Yes I did fully get rid of all the files and even when I uninstalled ntune, and installed 169.04 still had the problem. It's ok though, come tax time I'm going to be getting a new computer. Gonna get an Asus Maximus Special Edition MOBO with an E6850 Core 2 Duo an Asus Crossfire enabled graphics, 2GB of PC3 10600 RAM, and 2 hard drives to RAID for double data rate. The computer I have is 5 yrs old now, though it was top of the line then, only the graphics card is about a year old.
Guess I'll just wait until then, what I will be getting is well worth the wait lol. Thanks again. Yehonadav |

Well this is interesting. I found out what was conflicting that wouldn't let any program start to overclock my GPU, even RivaTuner was acting up with it. It was my Creative Game Port which I don't even use. I disabled it and that's when the problems started. Yet when I reenabled it, everything worked perfectly. Here's the thing though, I have a gamepad, but it's a USB one not a serial one that the Creative Game Port is. Whenever I leave that Game Port enabled, I don't get the rumble feature on my gamepad. For now I'll leave it enabled because I'd much rather have the overclocking available, but it is rather annoying since I'd like to have the rumble feature on my gamepad to not be interfered with. Any help on that would be awesome, though I know that's not what this forum is for.

Try the new 163.75 WHQLS that were released today. It might fix that issue. Or you can just disable Creative Game Port... but I recommend upgrading to them anyway or the 169.04s.
I prefer the 169.04s but betas usually have software overclocking problems (Why I just flashed my cards and got it over with)

I'd like to flash mine as well, but I don't have a floppy drive, only a Zip and a CD-RW one. Is there a way I could flash the graphics card bios with one of those? I know that you can make floppy's bootable, and I know that CD-ROM's can be made as bootable ISO's, not sure about Zip disks. If I can use either of those drives, how would I do that, and what software could I use? Thanks.
