Remove all the drivers. Restart, remove the "? VGA Adapter", reboot, let Windows get the Standard VGA drivers again, reboot, install NVIDIA drivers accordingly.

Ugh.... this is appallingly pathetic. After uninstalling and reinstalling nVidia drivers numerous times, the card is still not working. It is not shown in my Dxdiag, I cannot play any games, and it is not shown as hardware.

Is it possible that your power supply isn't big enough?

For 8600 use 175.19 drivers for xp 32bit.
Use this search to find drivers for your card and OS
Nvidia don t make every driver for all cards and you have error this driver is not for your card or OS

This is driver for winxp 32bit
This is driver for winxp 64bit

When I try to install 175.19, I get this error:
"The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."

First install chipset drivers for main board and dx9c

This card is dx10 card but all 8600 are made for dx9c
I think that you have dx9c and drivers on installation cd in card package
