Lately I been having craptons of problems with COD4 crashing and my SLI setup with 8800 GTX's

Ive tried 175.19 - no go, display driver crashing, BSOD
177.79 - works alright but crashes still too frequently to be happy with, VLC movies dont work
177.84 - COD4 crashes once in a while
188.89 beta - same deal with crashing, videos still dont work again


by "crashing" I referr to Vista64's "iwmp3.exe has stopped working and needs to close" box showing up, effectively forcing down COD4, and i loose all points i gained since joining the last server, very annoying

Ive reformatted just now so once the game is isntalled im going to need to isntall my graphic drivers, i have none yet (locked at 1280x1024 lol) Im not gonna install drivers until I figure which drivers will be best to use

i have come to believe its the 780i that is the culprate. i had that problem before i RMAd my 780i and after went away to never return again.

That driver gave me best performance on cod4 with my old sli setup

does the game even boot? or does it crash while you are playing?

if it doesn't boot it sounds like the dumb onboard audio problem, if it is, update audio/mobo drivers and enable stereo mix in the control panel.

Well this has been an issue with SLI on my older and new (RMA'd a while back) boards... so I think its a driver or possible BIOS problem? I might flash to latest one, im on P06 atm
I have EVGA Precision which uses RivaTuner code... I won't install it just yet then (I just reformatted)
Well Im not out to "test" drivers... I need something I can just install and start playing well.... Im sick of testing drivers
The game launches, i get the crash while playing after various amounts of time. And I dont have Stereo mix in my Audio CP, its never been there (I don't have drivers installed for aduio, I just let vista grab them..)

right click and then click on "show disabled devices"

does the 780i use realtek?

and i did have this problem where the COD4 MP crashed in-game, i just updated my bios/mobo drivers and they onboard stereo mix and it worked.

Yeah, it uses realtek I believe, but I have all disabled devices shown and it isn't there

So should I install Audio drivers at this point? And which one?
