Heya,
__________________I know that 'superclocked' basically means factory overclocked. (And hell, what is an Ultra REALLY besides a slightly pimped, OC'd GTX?) Yeah, I know I probably don't NEED to, but I'm interested in pushing it. Especially now that better cards have been coming out. =D First questions first... before I even touch any overclock settings, I want to get a solid cooling system in. Don't really want to spend more than $50, so no super fancy water cooling or anything... =) Any advice on what's good at around or under $50 for an 8800 Ultra?

the cooler on the ultra is good, just download riva tuner and ati rool. push it up a few mhz with riva tuner and then run ati tool for a couple minutes. keep doing this til it will crash, then go down to your last stable oc

Was running almost up to 100C in medium-stress games (Source games, WoW, etc) and didn't even want to risk running something like Far Cry 2 or Crysis. (Glad I monitor temps...) It was actually heating up my room. Damn thing is a mini furnace. Tested it by turning up the fan to 100% with Riva.. down to 20%... etc etc... NO CHANGE in the volume of the fan. When I've run it at 100% before to test it, it sounded like a miniature jet engine inside my PC. NO increase in sound. Did manually check... fan is moving... but it doesn't look like it's fast enough. So I popped the plastic casing off the card, left the fan/heatsinks etc. on, and just pointed a small personal fan inside the case right onto the card. (Airflow direction isn't a huge issue - it's a tech station) Temps dropped down to ~50C idle, sub 70C on normal load (usually 63C-65C, spiking to MAYBE 70C if things get hectic), peaking at ~72-75C in Far Cry 2. So yeah, I'm pretty sure the fan crapped out. Just want to get a more effective cooling system now.

Yeah, its better than the 8800 GTX's, I'm folding right now and fan is at 60s%, though temps are still high 70s to low 80s.

If you have only one card, this may work well for your cooling.

I'm going to be purchasing an HR-03+ (used) from somebody on the forums, hopefully soon.
__________________So I'll be going with that. Next step... OC'ng... Pencil modding an 8800 Ultra. Is it worth it? Anybody got any links? And from what I understand, the Ultra is essentially the same as a GTX, just slightly improved. So GTX guides on pencil modding should apply?
