Dont bother using ATi for folding, would only lead into dissapointing result. I would say the 8600 would be your best bet.

If you are not opposed to buying used or waiting a bit for a hot deal, the 8800GS / 9600GSO is hands-down the best in your budget.
Don't get the 8600GT. It is awful at folding and highly unstable. Sure, some people have gotten it to fold correctly, but I have seen countless problem-threads involving the 8600GT. I could not get mine to finish a single WU. But poke around for the 9600GSO. I am pretty sure you could get one for your budget, and it will wipe the floor with all the previous cards listed in this thread.

A 9600GSO should do 3000-4000 ppd. Just make sure to get a 96SP version.

What the gurus said. I also say 8600 or 9600 ,, online purchase,, newegg wont have the low prices,,, soo you have to go to some sites like www.directron.com or www.tigerdirect.com , Also look for rebates as well, to bring the price down to 50... gl
