Question Nvidia performance tool.. what's it all about ?

hi...

I have just downloaded and installed the Nvidia Performance tool, and I came to "Device Settings" side, and then I saw the interface I attached ( please find enclosed my attachment) and I wonder what is at all about??? I guess that it's intended to be for overclocking the GPU and such stuff, and if i was correct about that, then what can I do with all those sliders " if I really can" to gain some extra performance out of my crappy GPU?? can I increase any thing of it and try to see what differs without causing the card to consume more power out of my crappy PSU ???

or the whole process would not be safe at all ???

its just another driver level gpu overclocker

and i know from exp, that 8500gt will probably go to 600core +
mem,, probably won't go up much at all... mine barely squeeked 10mhz more

i think i left my shader linked, so i forget how high that got

Just OC with the shader clock unlinked, but make sure your shader clock is at least DOUBLE the clock of the core, or your OC won't stick--at least it doesn't in RivaTuner.

nVidia's performance tool is not very good. You'd be better using RivaTuner or EVGA Precision.

ohhh... my friend, do you know what... it occurred to me to send you a private message to help me with this issue as well, that as I told you... I want to try doing something with this card before I buy my new card , and though... I am going to install RivaTuner, and see what's it all about, and keep watching this thread as well please, I might ask some other annoying questions

thanx to you and to the others as well

well.. but what do you mean with "core unlinked" what do you mean with unlinked ?

- and does this process will make the card consume more power than it basically
requires ???

so I need a clarification about this point ( the power consumption ) since it's clear to you that am so limited with my crappy PSU

thanx again

ummmmmmmmmmmmm... it seems like that Riva Tuner is not as clear and easy as Nvidia tools, I don't know how to get my way through Riva Tuner even.

Precision is a very easy tool to use. You should check it out. You'll quickly see what linked and unlinked is. When linked, as yo uincrease GPU core the shaders will also be increased. When unlinked you can increase core w/o shader moving.

well guys... I just used Nvidia Performance tool and made the following changes:

as the attached picture show you that the Core Clock was set at 459 MH and I just set it to 503 MH, and then I doubled the shader from 918 MH to 1007 MH, and I set the memory clock to 400 MH, after it was 333 MH, and then I tried to refresh my system score, and I got 5.o for Graphic after it was 4.5, and I got 5.3 for gaming graphics after it was 5.2.

I know I didn't make that difference, but I only wanted to see what happens with those new settings, and my question is... after I made those changes to the memory clock, core clock, and shader clock... will the card be consuming more power than it originally suck ??

I need to know about this point before I can try anything further please, since you clearly know my problem .

thanx
