Default Overclocking 8600 GTS

Hey There,

Right now I'm in the process of Overclocking the 8600 GTS. I got it up to 722/1075 from the default 675/1008 and have seen a little but noticeable difference. I'm using SpeedFan and ATITool to do this. A question - When I'm using ATITool with the artifact finder open or finding maxcore/memory the temperature sky rockets, but when i close that window then it drops back down to normal, is that right?

What are you others seeing this graphics card overclocked too? I'm on stock everything yet and am willing to upgrade stuff to see this thing to the max, like cooling and power supplies. Not sure what mine has in it for power.

I'd use rivatuner if I were you.

When I was using that card I had clocks that were a bit higher. I think I had 825 on the core clock.

And yes temperatures are supposed to get really hot when the card is being stressed. Nothing to worry about

Ok cool, wasn't sure when the temp was soaring, haha. I checked into RivaTuner and couldn't figure it out. Any quick tips?

First off, I suggest you download furmark http://downloads.guru3d.com/FurMark-...load-1965.html

Then run that for about 15 minutes and check to see if you can spot any artifacts. If you don't, try bumping the core up 10 mhz and run it again for 15 minutes. If there are no artifacts, then bump up the memory 10 mhz and run Furmark. If it's an artifact-free run, then bump up the core again. Repeat this process. If you do see artifacts, its a good idea to lower your overclock by 5 mhz alternately on the core and the memory clock until you can pass furmark for 15 minutes without any artifacts.

I don't really quite get out RivaTuner works. I can't find anything that helps me get to up Core or Memory.

Thanks for the site! I got mine up to 730/1100. Just wondering how I could push it even further. I know my 1 gig of ram is probably hindering it. How about cooling? Would that push it up?

After market cooling, or just even improved air flow in your case would be your best bet to get a higher overclock. Oh, and the 1GB of memory doesn't effect your ability to overclock your video card, it will however limit your computer for gaming.

I just use EVGA Precision, works the best for me. FurMark also is my favourite stability testing program.

I use EVGA Precision for overclocking and ATI Tool to scan for artifacts since it will stress your card more than 3D Mark will.

Too bad I can't remember what my clocks were.
