Default New to nVidia Overclocking

So I just got my GTX 260 and I want to overclock it! I have the XFX Core Edition with 216 SP, 55nm.
I have RivaTuner and Furmark. I started Furmark to check my load temperatures and they exceeded 81ºC (fan on auto)!
When should I start getting worried? I'm using this card for F@H, should I only overclock the shaders or the core too?

Thank you!

use riva tuner to set fan manually & overclock, take fan off auto to keep cool.

edit> I have my fans on 90~%

Is core clock really beneficial for F@H? I very seldom game on this computer and it's more than enough performance at stock clocks for me.

For folding, all you need to do is raise the shaders. Set the fan to auto and as high as you are willing to run it. Then start doing the shaders one strap at a time. Check the link in my sig for more explanation on overclocking the shaders.

If you're running a 260 v216, you can try my overclock.

Core 750/Shader 1500/Memory 1200
Thing is, I play games lol, still fold as well.

He doesn't need 750 core or 1200 memory for folding. That would only add excess heat and potentially limit the ability to clock the shaders higher. Also, 1500 isn't a shader speed that the card can run at. It'd be at 1512.

Thanks! I've been using your guide to overclock the shaders, haha!

I'm currently at 1368 strap, I'll try a jump to 1500-area to see how that goes. I'll keep core and memory stock to lower temperatures.

Gotta set up things as in this guide later on.

If you are going to be folding 24/7, I wouldn't waste my time with fan profiles as it's always going to be hot. I'd just set it as high as you willing to withstand the noise.

Some of the guys in the gpu competition that use the same card as you run theirs in the 1600 range. I know that both wierdo124 and repo_man both have xfx 260's and they both run over 1600. I think that wierdo is still on the stock cooler and repo_man has a anfter market cooler.

I run my 65nm gtx 260 at 783/1674/1296. I ran these clocks 24/7 for several months with no problems. Just recently I switched it to my new rig and I have it at these clocks again. It's under water and runs 40°c under load. That's why I run the core and memory high. If it were just on air I'd probably leave them stock or near stock.

Instant artifacts under 1620 shader strap, trying 1584 after reboot.
