Dont know if this is "legal" or smart but I wanna ReOpen this thread..

Sadly I got problems with my new card (I think) it started 3-4 days ago with a "standard" crash.. didnt put a note on it, just a reboot "who cares" but after 3 crashes.. I noticed that fine print in white turns kinda pink (also under bios loading after the crash)

I reinstalled my gfx drivers, no changes.. should I try to reinstall windows?

All OC is turned off (cpu and gpu)

my computer isnt grounded (pe/earth) - could this have anything to do with this? or did I strike another bad card?

*edit*
I also got a new 23'' samsung witch I got when I got my first card (to one I had problems with the first 5 pages)

I think that just for the sake of experimentation, use the Dual Core Center software to increase the northbridge (or "ICH") voltage a bit. I had to do that with my system when I went from the 9800 GTX+ to the GTX 260, so you may have to do the same thing. Except, I can change my voltages through the BIOS, and it looks like your only option is to use the software called Dual Core Center. But at least you have an option.

So, please download the latest version of Dual Core Center, version 2.0.6.5:
Once Dual Core Center is installed and once you have activated it (the motherboard's manual says it needs to be activated), look for the icon on the bottom of the interface that looks like a lightning bolt. It's directly to the right of the fan button. Clicking this may give you the option to adjust the northbridge voltage. It may also give you the option to adjust the GPU voltage, but let's not do that right now.

Increase the northbridge voltage a little bit. But this is where it gets tricky for me to explain what I mean by "a little bit" because I don't know what kind of increments the software uses nor do I know what the voltage is at right now. But if it will allow increments of 0.05V up or down (so, if it starts at 1.1V, then it could increment like this: 1.15V, 1.2V, 1.25V, 1.3V, 1.35V, etc.), then increase it by 0.05V and see how that goes for a while. If it only allows for increments of 0.1V, then increase it by 0.1V and see how that goes for a while.

If problems still occur after increasing it by the one amount, then increase it again. I think there will come a point where the northbridge voltage will be high enough to support the new graphics card. At least, I am assuming that this is what needs to be done.

Of course, another thing that needs to be done is to get the surge suppressor plugged into a grounded outlet. Surge suppression is basically impossible if it's not grounded. Unfortunately, I don't know what difference it makes on the performance and stability of a computer. I mean, I can make guesses, but that doesn't do anyone any good.

Here is some information about the chipset which includes great information about the northbridge. I obtained this from Newegg's Learning Center (which serves as a buying guide):
Quote:
Chipset

The term "chipset" (sometimes called core logic) often refers to the two main chips on the motherboard: the Northbridge and the Southbridge. The Northbridge (or MCH in Intel chipsets) often refers to the chip that handles communications between the CPU, memory, AGP or PCI Express and the Southbridge. The Northbridge often includes the memory controller. Some models will also contain an integrated graphics unit (they are called the GMCH in Intel chipsets).

The Southbridge (Intel calls it the ICH) provides connections to I/O devices, such as the PCI bus, USB, PATA, SATA and PCI Express devices. Other Southbridge functions include interrupt controller, real time clock, power management (ACPI and APM), SMBus and so on. Southbridge chips are usually connected to Northbridge chips.

The chipset is the core component of a motherboard, and the CPU support, graphics support, major I/O device support and expansion (add-in) card support all depend on the chipset.

TwoCables.. as always, you are the one to puy my mind at ease.. but why do you think / "know" that I cant change NB voltage in bios? I had a 3.0 stable OC with my 2.4 C2Q but only due to NB voltage increese.. however I got a high vdroop or whatever it is called so I vent back to 2.8.. and even further back to 2.4 with normal voltages (CMOS reset) hoping that would give me some answers.. also.. stuff like this shouldent happen.. played "hardcore" games (assassins creed 2) for 2 weeks with no problems.. and now I crash?

*(crashed just now.. hail firefox for saving my text - I upped my NB and VTT and hope this will help)

Dont know if it might help.. I if im playing games, music og movies.. the sound from the source will loop 0.01 sec of the sound and move forward in about 1/4 of normal speed for abouyt 5 sec and then silence ex. "you dude.. whats up?"

*(just had a nother crash - the NB up didnt help..)

will go "yoyoyoyoooooooo dududududuuuuududududedededeee etc.." and go compleatly frozen! :S

This is lame.. I will do a reinstall of C: (hate it..) to remove any chance of OS/software defect..

is this another bad card? ! ? /cry (thx 2cable - back in an hour or so)

Damn. I cannot think of why it would do that. So, I hope that somebody else has experience that they can draw from to solve this. I'm only making guesses.

But the reason why I thought the only option was to go through Dual Core Center was because I looked through this motherboard's BIOS through the manual, and I saw absolutely no options to change it.

But that's the most I can say to this right now. I'm so stumped.

However, I do have one very unrelated question: which version of Firefox are you using? And equally important: are you using Overclock.net's WYSIWYG editor?

The WYSIWYG editor is the What You See Is What You Get editor. If you format text, then you see it without having to Preview it.

You see, I use that editor, and if I use anything newer than Firefox 3.0.4, then I can't close or restart Firefox in the middle of a message and continue typing where I left off once I re-open Firefox just like you were able to do. I can only do it if OCN's standard editor is my choice in my User CP - which I think is the default editor upon the creation of a new OCN account. But if I use 3.0.4 or older, then I can always continue typing where I left off regardless of which of OCN's editors I'm using.

I'm still using Firefox 3.5.1. on purpose because it was required for a newer theme that I really wanted. But if you're using the very, very latest version, which is 3.5.5, and if you're using that WYSIWYG editor and are able to continue typing where you left off after closing and re-opening Firefox, then I'm going to upgrade!

Anyway, I am still stumped as to what's going on.

to anyone else.. Im sorry for reopening this thread if the problem is solved now (by a simple OS reinstall).. this is offtopic I know.. but I didnt think it would help at the time I reopend.. and not sure if it has yet will continue!

Wow. You're right. I totally missed that question. lol

I think the only way I can answer it is by saying this so it might shed some light as to what's happening with that end of it:
  • vDrop results in what most people call the "idle voltage" or something similar.
  • vDroop results in the voltage that most people call the "full load voltage" or something similar.
If this doesn't really explain it, then I guess I might not understand what the question is yet.

I havent had the time for reseating the blcok today.. had to hotwire a car for a friend.. hehe.. was fun :P I will post when I know more
That is a huge Vdroop. So you are set to 1.344 vcore and 1.288 thats almost a .06 vdrop. Due to this, you may be able to find a pencil mod for your board to reduce the amount this changes your vcore when you put your CPU under load.

Once you get those temps worked out, you have a good margin to increase to acheive 3.0. Cause effectively you are running 2.8 with 1.28vcore, making hitting 3.0 with probably around 1.31vcore after load.
I then asked if I had to change the resistor by hand or if it was changed by software?!?
