Default GTX 260 Driver vs. Windows problem

I decided to update the drivers on my 260 after not updating for a few months (L4D2 Demo releases tonight, of course I have to update!). So I start the driver update, it finished, I restart, nothing happens. I initiate the driver update again, it tells me that I don't have Windows Vista 64 and that I'm running a 32 bit OS, which I'm certainly not. What gives/how do I fix this?

Might be a dumb answer -- No. I've always thought you could just update over the previous one? May sound stupid, but it has worked for the past few driver updates.

it's all good. there's your problem. I did the same thing a while back and had to uninstall the drivers, delete all of the files, and reinstall them

Hey, just so you know, do not update to the 191.07 drivers if you have an nvidia chipsets or your board has an nf200 chip on it. It will cause instability problems that will not go away even if you uninstall them And reinstall the old ones. I found out about it too late. It does not matter what board or cards you have either. And the only thing that will fix it for sure is a new motherboard. Even reinstalling the OS does not always work. I will find the link and edit it in.

Thank you. You certainly helped me with that. I was just about to go searching for a solution. I guess I'll have to 1. Wait until they resolve the conflict between the nVidia chipsets and cards 2. Obtain a driver previous to 191.07 (I'd rather not install the 160.xx from the disk). Going to look for past drivers now.

Have you tried booting into safe mode and using a driver cleaner program to totally sterilize your PC from any residue leftover from the driver install, and then reinstalling??

(I know you may have already done this, but Im trying to think of what I would do)

Use something like driver cleaner to delete any remnants of the old drivers. It is $10, but it is worth it.

Cleaned my old drivers out and downloading 190.38 to see if I get any conflicts.
