Default Random comparing of graphic cards

Just wanted to ask that:

1. What would be better a 9800M GT in a laptop or a 9600GT in a desktop?
2. A 8400M GT in a laptop or 8400GS in a desktop?

1.) 9600GT in a desktop
2.) Similar, I would have thought.
