Why risky? Nothing bad's gonna happen as long as you know what you're doing.

I can't be bothered doing the volt mods at the moment, takes so long to apply the damn thermal paste to ram and clean off the old stuff for two cards at once.

I've always done volt mods for previous cards though, so I will before I upgrade for sure.

you bastards!!!!!!

how many times did I ask and you never gave me the answers!!!
LOL!!! I wanna kick all of you in the shins!
hahaha

Vold mod it is then... but... in terms of FPS on COD2 or a more community friendly 3dmark06... what kind of improvement might I expect from this mod...? I wish we had 3dmark scores added to the sheet... not as a requirement though... on the article porsche drifter linked us to (thank you) it seems I should only expect about 1000 points more...

Is it really worth it?

and one more thing, please, will air do? I am getting 58C idle now with nothing but a blower

I found this to be an interesting read, go through the pages and skip the gtx part but read the conclusion and see the benchmarks...

The volt mod is definitely not worth it if you consider time/risk versus reward it's more an epeen kind of thing, have a look at the benches even using phase and they aren't much higher than with watercooling.

Basically this is because the 8800GTX is clocked pretty high to its limit already, hence why even on air cooling people are getting similar results.

but I have a 640MB GTS

so I could gain about 1000 points on 3D right?

is that worth it?

eh if your going for record holding on here it is, either do the vmods or edit the bios. btw these cards have overvoltage protection for the gpu, cant go over 1.4 at least not with mods, if somebody could change the bios and see if they could get 1.5 that would be great, and supposedly the gts memory hits a wall at 1.2v and 1100 mhz, even tho i broke that
