(love the 177.92) today i try atitool to see if i can get any more out of it and it artifacts immediately. any thoughts? should i even care if it seems to be fine in game.. i only care so i can post here. i want my 10 minutes!! xD
Very similar issue here, I've recently got an XFX 8800 Ultra and either AtiTool or Furmark lock up in seconds at default clocks. I think it has to be some nvidia driver incompatibility bs because I can game in Crysis for hours rock solid with core/shader/mem at 675/1674/1100 but stock clocks still fail in seconds in atitool/fur.
BTW I put the Ultra into my research/work pc, probably should update profile now

Hey how did you get your 8800 to be recognized in atitool??? I tried with 0.26 but it never reconized it and the only one that reconized it was 0.27 beta 4 but all it does is recognize the card, I cant change the clocks or anything else.

I suggest that you use Riva Tuner to set the clocks and fan speed. In riva tuner you have the option to oc the shader clock, while in ati tools you dont.

I do use rivatuner for the clocks but the thing is that the scan for artifacts thing doesn't really work to well. It will run but it will keep going on and on for hours even though the clock i put it at is not stable. I just want it so that the artifacts thinf works right.

Finally resolved my ati tool issue. Seems like all I needed to do was to check of
"use old (more compatible?) scanning method". Heres my ultra oc so far on air w/ stock cooling.
