Guys, I have flashed my xfx 8800gts 320mb extreme edition (def 560/850) bios to xxx edition (def 580/900), and it works for me since the shader clock is also higher, it gives me extra almost 300 points in 3Dmark06.
It max at 657/1060 and the artifact showing, when I get 658 gpu speed it freeze with any memory speed (try to lowering the memory speed but it didn't works)
and another noob question, i would like to buy an aftermarket cooler, would it give me higher gpu speed? by lowering the temps considering there is no volt mod yet.
Is it freezing because of the gpu reaches the max temp? or the max that gpu would do without the volt mod?
by the way my idle temps now 52 deg celcius at idle
Thanks guys

Two things.. #1.

- Yes..it does not have enough voltage to run at that speed...yet

#2.

Get the aftermarket cooler. A good Zalman, will drop your temps around 10-15c from stock. A lower temp , will help to get higher clock speeds at the current voltage.

That's what i mean! because I'm considering to buy thermalright hr-03 plus for 8800 gts, I'm affraid that i wouldn't get extra performance by lowering the temps on stock voltage.
Thanks for your information CL3P2O
Best Regards

Looks to be a good design, and has good reviews. Great choice.

*Just for gp- lowering the cores temp, ~10c should result in another 10-15mhz of stable operation. Getting rid of heat, lowers effective resistance inside the core...making it easier to receive voltage, and operate at either; lower volts or faster speed.

are you using the command line /switch...I believe you have to force the flash....

at the command prompt enter "nvflash /?" this will give you a list of switches and their respective functions

definitely not...the gtx has a bunch more 'core' units than the gts...you cannot simulate hardware you dont have, using a BIOS flash...

I have a question for all those of you who have successfully bios flashed a GTX, particuarly the EVGA version. My friend jsut got the stock GTX from EVGA and it seems we have ran into a few issues. I had the 8800GTS stock and rom flashed it to the ASC3 version and it worked perfectly for me. I tried to flash the GTX to the AC3 version and everything worked, clocks and all were right, so I started 3Dmark06 and it ended up crashing half way through the first test.

At stock the car ran the test fine, (PCB very hot though), so then I tried the Superclocked bios instead and I got the same/ result (it crashed in the fist test). Does this mean the card is running too hot or what? Do I need to set the fan to full, I don;t get it, this procedure worked fine on the GTX.

Any help would be very appreciated or any tips. Thank you in advance!
