the pencil is for the volt mod on the vRAM and the conductive ink is used to 'create' the lines in the pictures above..increasing voltage to the gpu core.
..solder is the only substitute, other than using a 'windshield de-fogger repair kit' and a needle to 'draw' the lines..that is the method I started with and eventually went to solder...since you are worried about having a "clean" card after you are done with it..the solder is out of the Q.

mem can be done with a pencil and a voltmeter...takes minutes, but is not needed until core speed is increased.
1. for gpu volt mod: Take the card out of the case, using either the 'pen' or a needle and some de-fogger repair goop..draw out the lines on your PCB to connect the 'dots'. You should only do the mod for 1.4v if you are on stock cooling. That should allow you somewheres in the realm of a 620mhz core. 2. Re-insert the card after its all dry, and proceed to use 'riva tuner' or 'powerstrip' to OC the gpu core..making sure to run 3d Mark every 20-50mhz you increase the speed, to ensure stability..and I dont mean just once either...run it back to back for an hour. 3. For the vMEM mod: you need a mechanical pencil or sharp number2 and a voltmeter set to measure in mili-ohms. Here is the pic for the vMEM mod ..now using a voltmeter, measure the resistance of the marked resistor [use both probes to measure across the resistor] and record the value. Next, with your pencil, draw on the resistor, from one side to the other..press firmly as if writing..not hard. After a couple of passes, measure the resistance again..you want to lower the resistance by ~20ohms..this will yield a new vRAM voltage of ~1.90v [ea. ~15-20ohms lower, from stock value = ~.5v increase in voltage] 4. Re- insert card and repeat step #2 this process should get you in the area of a 625mhz core clock and 1.8-1.9ghz memory, depending on cooling and memory IC type for your card.

i tried to change my bios since i couldn't change between 3d settings or 2d settings in rivatuner or coolbits. I also have default clock and mem of 250/266. I thought maybe i could change that by using a different bios?

Also i changed the bios to a BFG fx 5500 bios 256mb and after i installed it it said it was only 128mb and when i tried changing the bios back to the backup it said firmware ID doesn't match and board ID mismatch.

in nibitor the checksum for my backup bios is E5 what does that mean? I can't seem to flash it using the method above. It still says BOARD ID mismatch.

look on the first page of the Nibitor program..vendor ID..is it telling you, that your card is a different model number?
