Freelancer;

The evga 285 GTX SSC/FTW come with added pin bridging and higher vGpu/vMem. Stock cards run at 1.18v, the SSC/FTW cards run at 1.24-1.26v so flashing a vanilla card to SSC/FTW will only change clock freq and not voltages, the voltage change is done on the card itself.

Ah so, I'd most likely brick my card if I flashed to the FTW BIOS without modding my card? I'm not going to go and waste the $430 it cost for this card by failing to solder correctly.

Darn, I was hoping that I'd be able to get a quick overclock this way.

yeah, unfortunately even with the paint/pencil mods it does not seem to give a boost in clocks. If you can run close to 700/1600/1300 thats about averege for the 285.

SSC/FTW are usually pretested at higher overclocks. And just down right better clocking cards

these things have OCP protection that will kick in long before 800/1700/1500 and only way to get past it is with a soldering gun...

I am not doing it to my card either... heck, for $100 or so I can trade up to the 295 if I really need a faster card...

How to undervolt your GFX card so you can get better temps... but worse overclocks.

Needed programs:
BIOS tools (NvFlash and NiBiTor)
GPU-z
  1. Open GPU-z and save your BIOS with the safe BIOS button.
  2. Close GPU-z and open NiBiTor and open your saved BIOS. (you may have to select ".bin" in the dropdown menu where default is ".rom")
  3. That it is opened go to the Voltages tab.
  4. Set "extra" to 1.03v and set "3D" to 1.03v as well. (If you encounter lockups you can up the Voltages to 1.06v)
  5. Save the BIOS to your NvFlash directory. (as a .rom)
  6. Open up a prompt menu by running the command "cmd" in the run window.
  7. Navigate to your NvFlash folder. (use "cd.." to go a folder up, "cd <foldername>" to go into that folder and ex. "G:" to go to your G drive.)
  8. Once in your NvFlash folder type the following: "nvflash.exe -4 -5 -6 <biosname>.rom" and hit enter.
  9. You will now be prompted if you are sure.... and you are so go ahead and press "y".
  10. Once done reboot your PC and enjoy a cool GTX280... or any GFX card for that matter.

And you can use the flashing part for anything.

Sorry... I didn't feel like rewriting the whole thing so you just have to go read the whole thing until you see the flashing part. :P

When doing this through Windows can you use the full commands like "--index" and "--protectoff"?

Like I thought. This doesn't work with the newer versions of nvflash. The one you have linked is for G80 and earlier cards. I tried it anyways.
