Yeah, I bought the non-OCed, 192 core GTX260, and now the item is "Deactivated" on newegg....the only 192 core GTX260s they sell are the factory OCed ones which is nothing but a ripoff....sigh, ah well, i'll just wait a couple months then...

Don't think they have one that works with the 8600 yet. 8400 and 8500 yes. That's the 9300. They where talking about adding cards to its SLi capatiblity when they launched it so you could check up on that.
EDIT: Opps, not AMD

i have 2 9800gtx+ running in SLI on a xfx 780i mobo(video cards are also xfx) but when playing games like crysis warhead, farcry2 and crysis, i get a very minimal performance boost, adding maybe 10 fps, from disabled SLI to Enabled sli. i have been told by freinds that this is because i have the cards in slot 1 and 3 of the pci express slots on the motherboard. only slot 1 and 2 are pci express 2.0, slot 3 is regular pci express, running at half the bandwidth as pci-e 2.0. and since the card in slot 3 isnt running at its full power it brings down the other video card in slot one to the level of the card in slot 3. is this correct? could this be why i dont get much performance with my sli setup?

1.0 PCIe shouldn't bottleneck a 9800GTX. Can you not use the two 2.0 slots for SLI?

i can use it but then they are so close together that the other would not have very much room to get fresh air, which is why i put it in the bottom slot, plus im using the 3 way SLI connector, is this ok? if i use the dual card sli connector, it detects the second card as a 8800gts

3-way SLi connector should be fine. Never heard of a SLi connector changing the way a card is detected. Wierd.
Try using the 2.0 slots and monitor temps. Might want to use RivaTuner to set fan speeds.

well it turns out that i was using the right slots, top and bottom pci-e slots are the 2.0, middle slot is the 3rd slot. i have all the latest drivers, why are all these games performing like such crap with SLI?i use evga precision in order to set fan speeds, on the video cards and it works great.i have a friends who gets the same fps with the same video card, and he runs an AMD setup

Well. it's not a CPU bottleneck. Try turning on the visual SLi bar and make sure it's working in game.
