New to Overclock.net
|
I've been reading on overclock.net about some xfx680i mobo problems and ran acrossed some people bickering about videocards. People think that the 8800 gts is FAR below the new 8800 gt. What all these people don't realize that even though the GT has 112 unified shader clocks(SC) and the gts has 96 sc, the gts's memory bandwidth is 320bits per clock and the gt is only 256bits per clock...
This is how they really fill out. GTS memory throws out 320bits*96core-bits/cycle=30,720bits per cycle GT memory throws out 256bits*112core-bits/cycle=28,672bits per cycle The GTS has a default core clock speed of 550 and the GT is 600 mhz (550mhz=550,000,000 cycles per second) (600mhz=600,000,000 cycles per second) (There is no information on the internet as to the bandwidth of the cores.) assuming the cores have the same bandwidth per core. How many bits can these cards process per second? These are the final results.(Theoretical Results) GTS, 550mhz, 96cores, 320bit bandwidth 16,896,000,000 GT, 600mhz, 112cores, 256bit bandwidth 17,203,000,000 So the stock results: The GT is a little faster than the GTS but... Both cards are easily overclockable... For every 1mhz of overclock of each card gain these results. +1mhz GTS=+30,720,000bits per second +1mhz GT =+28,672,000bits per second ***The GT is a better card as compaired to a stock GTS, but the GTS is a better card if overclocked as comparied to the same overclock of a GT.*** My GTS is oc'd to 721mhz (Verification) My results are 22,149,120,000,000bits per second Hypothetically If I had a GT oc'd to 721mhz 20,672,512,000,000bits per second Which is better now??? Think critically people. I hate stupid people. I do have one more thing to say. All results are assuming that each cycle of the gpu processes one bit. This is obviously not true. The memory clock is also linked 1:1 to the core, which never happens in real life. Memory is always clocked faster than the core. No no one comment saying I'm stupid. I know there are a lot more factors. If I were to include all factors the math would be very long and tedious. Thanks all

Very details. Your comment may be legit. That’s what we would like to see whether GT is the real deal or not when more GT rolls out. However, the bottom line is the performance vs. price ratio. This is key factor why so many go for GT.

Anybody else have a evga card? There is that sticker on the board that says warranty void if removed and its right on a screw. It looks like if I try to remove the stock heat sink I need to somehow remove the sticker with out tearing it. Anybody else have this problem? I am worried that this may pose a problem when the new water blocks come out, cause I dont want to void anything. Would like to keep my 90day step up program in tact. Any soultions?

you need to compair a similar OC percent-wise 721mhz on a gts is about a 31%OC 786mhz on a gt is about a 31%OC so a GTS at 721 will give us 22,149,120,000,000bits per second(using ur mark) and a gt at 786 will give us 22,536,192,000,000bits per second also, the gt is 65nm core and the gts is a 90nm core (65nm being more efficient) so now i say, and i quote... The neoseeker review should be added as well. They compare two bfg 8800gt oc's in sli to several top cards including the ati hd2900xt
http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Ha...0_GT_OC/6.html Has anyone seen the OC specs for the BFG 8800GT OC2 yet? Its listed for sale but is not even posted on BFG's own site.

I think both Freddy and Edge made a good point. When you compare clock per clock on this two cards(GT & 640 GTS) there's no big difference in performance, at least not enough to swap one for the other. The value of the GT is what makes it impresive. I'm just going to wait till December for the new GTS and see how much better it is with the 128 SC.
