Why the GeForce 9600 is delayed

Quote:
The Inq got their hands on some information regarding the delay of the GeForce 9600 that NVIDIA send out to their partners:
NVIDIA found a small percentage of GeForce 9600 GT boards exhibiting a voltage transient on the NVDD power supply during certain applications. They have reason to believe that this may cause a system hang under certain conditions. In order to provide the most robust and reliable solution possible to NVIDIA's customers they have decided to hold shipments in order to make some minor modifications to reduce the transients.

NVIDIA's engineering team has identified the necessary modifications and they are in the process of verification. I will communicate the exact modifications to you as soon as they have been verified and we will communicate the new shipping schedule in the next few days.

Since we are now running into the Chinese New Year holiday NVIDIA have decided to move the launch date out a week in order to ensure that our partners have enough time to get product on shelves at the time of launch.

***New GeForce 9600 GT launch date is Feb. 21st***

I saw some leaked benchmarks of the 9600GT. It performs better than the 8600GTS,(obviously) 8800GS and the HD 3850.

Yes. As nVidia states, 9600GT is between 8800GS and 8800GT. It should be a nice mid-range card if the $169 price tag is still valid.

Default Partners to show 9800 at Cebit

Come on. Give me a real date.
Quote:
Some of Nvidia partners have said that they will be ready to showcased Nvidia's Geforce 9800 cards at Cebit. So the launch will be either Cebit or shortly before Cebit.

We will tell you a more accurate date when we get it but it looks like Nvidia is doing the final tweaks to it and at this time the company should be starting the production to reach the availability at Cebit.

For all of you that might not know Cebit starts on the March 4th and this might give you a better time frame. At this point it looks that Geforce 9600 launches on the March 21st while 9800 should be launched between then and March 4th.

amazing prices, i hope they are true. wow on those g100s though. i'll be subscribing to this thread. i want to know when those g100s will be out , ati will need some heavy artillary to even compete. i think my 8800gtx's will be more than enough to hold off until the g100s (probably beyond that too tbh)

Psst, the 8800Ultra and GTX are no longer in production. The 9800GX2 is to debut on Feb 14th. 9800GTX is supposed to come a month later.
