GeForce 9800 GTX Card Photos & Specs Unveiled

VR-Zone has gotten some details and photos of the GeForce 9800 GTX (G92-P392) card. It comes with 12-layer PCB at 4.376" by 10.5". This card is clocked at 673MHz for core and 1683MHz for the shader while memory clock is yet to be determined. The memory interface is 256-bit with 512MB of 136-pin BGA GDDR3 memory onboard. It comes with two DVI-I and one HDTV-out. There are two SLI connectors and two 6-pin PCIe power connector. The card employs the CoolerMaster TM67 cooler where the fan is rated at 0.34A, 4.08W, 2900rpm, 34dBA. The total board power is 168W

Those looking for the next 'green' thing in terms of single-GPU graphics cards will have will soon be getting the GeForce 9800 GTX which is based on the 65nm G92-420 chip. This dual-slot high-end beastie will come to fill the gap between the GeForce 8800 GTS 512 and 9800 GX2 and will support DirectX 10(.0), OpenGL 2.1 and Triple-SLI.

Set to be clocked at about 675, 1688 and 2200 MHz (GPU, shaders and memory) the GeForce 9800 GTX has just been put to the test by the guys at Expreview.com who have hooked it up to a system equipped with a 3GHz QX9650 CPU and ran Futuremark's 3DMark06. At the default settings and resolution (1280x1024) the upcoming GeForce card has returned a score of 14014 points, as you can see below. The score is certainly promising, but still a testimony to the fact that the 9800 GTX is a rather shy evolutionary step given the use of the G92 chip. We still want two though. No, make that three.

2008 didn't have any love for the green beast until now as Nvidia's upcoming dual-PCB, dual-GPU series 9 card, the GeForce 9800 GX2 has been pushed back a couple of weeks from February to March 11th. But, if the Rumorville citizens are right then even that date would mean premature birth for the 9800 GX2 due to driver issues.

As a result of the problems the GeForce 9800 GX2 is expected to face a new delay which will see it be officially introduced on March 18. The card is still expected to be backstage at CeBIT next week.
