Not sure if it has been posted yet or not but...

Passively cooled Gigabyte 9600GT

Oooh, it's all silent and stuff.

Does anybody know if you can mount a fan on this? A low speed, 120mm fan would cool this thing like money!

We earlier told you about the updates of the GeForce 9 roadmap and along with it we also had some preliminary information about the price of the upcoming graphics cards from NVIDIA. The information we published stated that the GeForce 9800GX2 would cost $599, but we weren't able to confirm this before publishing. We now have confirmation that this is the recommended price of the reference-clocked GeForce 9800GX2. Overclocked versions will most likely cost a bit more.

Considering the Radeon HD 3870X2 costs little more than half that, and with the upcoming launch of CrossFireX, it does seem a bit expensive. Especially when you realize that this is basically two down-clocked GeForce 8800GTS cards slapped together and underclocked. The G92-450 core does sport some architectural improvements, such as OpenGL 2.1 support, but the 600MHz core, 1500MHz shader and 2000MHz memory clock is not going to impress many unless SLI delivers some kind of magic.

EDIT: linskingdom you should show it in the 1st page. The GeForce 9800GX2 price confirmed; $599

Thanks your comments. The main purpose of this thread is to inform members the latest information about 9 series GPU and maintain a place so members can discuss here. I try not to put my personal comments as possible. I don’t like the way that nidia does as an end user but understand why they do this. As of today, nVidia is clearly ahead of game. It doesn’t surprise me at all that they produce the 9 series by using the G92. This
isn’t due to the fact that they encounter technology difficulty and have to use G92. They did it because they projected that the 9 series (even with 65nm, G92,GDDR3) will still perform better than whatever ATI currently have (55nm and GDDR4). We may complaint about this now but we will change our mind as soon as these crappy cards are able to get extra few hundreds points in benchmark. This allows them to reduce R&D cost and have plenty of time to develop next whatever ‘flagship’ GPU. We really want ATI step up here. they ave hots of work to do. As long as they don’t feel pressure from ATI, we will expect more crappy cards and delays of new products. Back to 9 series, I expect that nvidia put lots of efforts to enhance drivers to get last drop of juice from G92. I think they will do well. The only problem I see is the price.

If the cooling can be handled the sandwich card should do very well overclocked. I wonna see Spark make a huge silent heatsink for this one. Then just mod a fan to it.

Prices are bummers.

Looking at the pics it seems that 90% of the exhaust air will be dumped into the chassis.
Not good IMO, this is going to be one hot running card that will heat every component up a tad bit.
If I remember correctly the delay was in part due to the heat factor, hopefully Nvidia got it lined out.

Agreed. It will heat up everything. That was the reason of the delay.
