Yeh, it cooked an egg within a case that didn't have good air flow. the Spark card acually kept good temps as long as there was air flow in the case. I would personally fix a fan to the heatsink.

If I can talk myself into the Galaxy (KFA2) card that has the double slot cooler I plan to either leave one of the PCI slot covers off of the back of my case or get out the Dremel and make some slots. The possibility of poor support and a short warranty are the biggest concerns since I'll need this card to last a loooong time although having two BIOS' sounds kind of nice.

From the sounds of it though the 9600GT reference cooler has a larger fan on it this time around and those who did overclock it and review it report that the temperatures stayed at a reasonable level but many reviewers don't go as crazy with overclocks as some of our members do.

Default 9800GTX 3Dmark06 score here, don’t be too excited *Update*

Details here

Update: Ran another test with a X9650@4GHz, no more bottleneck for 9800GTX

Original story:

Quote:
As expected, here is the card’s 3Dmark06 performance. Nothing special, score just around 14K, not those Über high scores. But considering 9600GT SLI scaling to a new height, maybe 9800GTX is also good at SLI and 3-way SLI.

my god that's some crappy score!

my 8800GTX at no where near that speed 648/2000 and my non-Penryn quad at 3.8Ghz gets 14.5k, under Vista 64bit.

i really hope it's more of a driver problem rather than the card may be slower than 8800GTX

I'm assuming these low scores are due to a lack of good drivers? Hopefully, otherwise I guess I'll be getting an X2 in a few weeks

Default PCGH Exclusive: Preview of Geforce 9800GTX

Details here

Please view the details if you are interesting how it does in the gaming by using the initial drivers.

Note: I had posted this in the news section this morning. I had Mod remove it because of the legit issue.

I got my EVGA 9600GT SC in today.
I'm really impressed. I was on a 7800gt, so this is a nice step up for me.
I've ran a couple of benchs, but I'm having some driver issues. The drivers that came on the CD wouldn't work at all for Quake Wars. Although they did play Crysis wonderfully. So I went to the latest stable drivers on nividia's page, got BSOD's. Now I'm on the Beta drivers, and all seems well for now. Also did a reformat and fresh install just to eliminate any other hassles.

Another problem I'm having is OC'ing it. Rivatuner doesn't even give me the option for it. And Ntune always resets the core clock to 641mhz, which stock is 675.

But after they work on drivers, this card is gonna be a hoss. It's cheap, (considerably speaking) FAST, and not power hungry!

Bench screens below. 3DMark score is on stock settings for the card, and my CPU @2.6Ghz.
