I think that's total bullcrap. 4GHz to stop a 9800GTX From bottlenecking? Theres no way. First of all they dont even show us the graphical test results at difrent cpu speeds, secondly this 9800GTX is just an overclocked 8800GTS 512. My 8800GTX stop being bottlenecked at 3.15GHz, how could this 9800GTX stop being necked @ 4GHz. No way, its a lie. I'd believe if they said 3.2-3.4GHz. Not 4GHz.

The crappy part about those scores is that they're using an QX9650! Even with a monster processor it's still pulling down dodgy numbers and I don't know about the rest of you but I'd take having something to eat and a place to live over dropping a stupid bundle of cash on a processor like that.

Well, using Vista skews the scores, so take this with a grain of salt.

Hmm...true. That's why I can't see myself ever using Vista to game with, even if it does mean sweet, sweet eye candy. Unless I'm running 4GB+ RAM and a nice chunky CPU I'll stick with XP for now.

Update:

With some minor OC'ing of the GPU, I got my 3dmark 06 score up to 11,709.
Not bad for the "Budget" card eh??

Core clock @743Mhz
Mem@ 908Mhz
Shader@ 1842Mhz

In running multiple benchs, it seems the more I up the RAM clock, the lower my score get. It started from 908Mhz and on. IDK why yet, still messing with some settings.
But for now, I'm still really happy with the performance of this card!

I'm going to point out once more (for the record) that 'CPU bottlenecking' as a concept is entirely dependent on the SITUATION ... there is no such thing as an 'absolute' CPU bottleneck on your gpu.

When I say situation, I refer to the APPLICATION being run, the RESOLUTION, and the IMAGE QUALITY settings.

Basically, the LESS HARD the GPU has to work to run the application, the more likely it becomes for the CPU to become a bottleneck.

There is NO WAY, NO HOW that a statement can be accurately made that says "Such and Such a GPU WILL BE bottlenecked by any CPU running at <X GHz". That is bulls*it, wrong, and otherwise inaccurate. Period. Take that to the bank.

Similarly, one cannot accurately say 'My 8800GTX STOPPED being bottlenecked at X GHz', unless you also specify what situation this is in reference to.

Try running Aquamark 3 with your GTX at different clock speeds, then your CPU at different clock speeds, and you'll see what I'm talking about

I posted it somewhere else that XFX isn't offering their double lifetime, overclocker/modder friendly warranty on the 9600GT's. I wonder if it's due to the fact that it's a new card, supply is still limited, they aren't sure how well things will work yet, waiting for a new revision to roll out based on problems that current users have, etc?

Either way it looks like it may be time to switch to EVGA since they seem to be the only ones offering a low priced card with a lifetime warranty. Maybe by July things will have changed.

Jetway also has 2GB GeForce 9600 GT

Quote:
Just when we started to thing that MSI's 2GB GeForce 9600GT is an isolated incident we found out that yet another company has equipped a G94 card with that amount of memory.

Jetway, at its CeBIT booth is now showcasing a 2GB 9600 GT and although it is set to stock clocks - 650, 1625 and 1800 MHz for the core, 64 Stream Processors and memory, like MSI's own creation, it comes with a non-reference cooler. Taking up two slots the cooler resembles that of the 8800 GTS 512 so it should do a pretty good job at keeping the GPU's temperatures at decent levels. Now did we mention that 2GB is overkill?
