i do not think a 450 msrp is that crazy.. If this was there new flagship with new core and alot of innovation they could sell it for 700+.. however, it is not.. while it is a new flagship.. it isnt very new and i would think that would be taken into account.

Also if the 3780x2 is coming out close to the same time that is another reason it might be cheaper..

Could be all wrong just a little speculation.

Questions that im still looking for answers to..
What is new about the 9800gtx? memory?
9800gx2 support for dual monitors?
9800gx2 new way of memory use?
The 8800GTS 320 can be bought for only $200. Theres no way that Nvidia would sell a new high end card with specs like that for that cheap. Considering that it's also two cards in one package it will probably retail for around $800, minimum. I remember when the 7950GTX2 came out it sold for around $800.

did some measurements to get an idea how long the 9800GX2 may be. The 9800GX2 is about 10.45” to 10:50” long. The size of the typical ATX board is 12” X 7.8” to 9.6”. wow. I am sure most cases will fit but bigger is better so you have space to move around and doesn't bother your HD or DVD drive something.

Why don't they make a 65nm ultra with more shaders?

Not just that. The whole road map is confused as well the product naming scheme and price structure

I know the GX2 comes out Feb 14th, is there any possibility that the GTX will be the same release date?

I've got upto the 26th Feb for my roll-up, my card was £340, so around $700, I don't mind spending a little more, what do people think, will GTX follow that closely to GX2?

It is possible because HD3870x2 may be released at the end of Jan or early Feb.

Most makers will only order in small volumes and will not order any more after they have sold out,
So, it is a special edition?

Quote:
With AMD to launch its Radeon HD 3870 X2 graphics card featuring dual RV670 GPUs on the 23 of this month, and Nvidia is also planning to launch the GeForce 9800 GX2 on February 14 which will be include two G92 GPUs, it looks as though 2008 will become the year of dual GPU cards, at least for the high-end market.

In the past, GPU makers would normally design for the highest-end GPU first and then reduce chip speeds and functions to create a product range targeting the different market segments. However, with high-end chip design taking longer, while at the same time graphics card product-cycles have got shorter, AMD and Nvidia will both change their strategy, and now use their respective CrossFireX and SLI technologies to help prolong the life of their chips, detailed the sources.

GeForce 9800 GX2 cards will have a total of 256 stream processors and adopt a double PCB design. The two GPUs will share the same PCI Express port by using Nvidia's BR05 chip; a similar design solution to that employed in AMD's Radeon HD 3870 X2. The performance will be 1.3-1.5 times faster than that of a single GeForce 8800 Ultra card, noted the sources.

The GeForce 9800 GX2 will keep SLI support for quad GPU configurations. Pricing will be set at US$449.

However, due to the low market acceptance of dual GPU graphics cards, the makers are currently still conservative over the two upcoming dual GPU products. Most makers will only order in small volumes and will not order any more after they have sold out, according to the sources
