If you look at the benchmarks of the 1GB vs 512MB you will find the 512 beats the 1GB in quite a few GAMES (the numbers that actually matter )

I agree that it looks like this is a sensitive issue with people (ie the post above yours). But the fact is not many people have this card so it is hard to compare it with the 512MB version. I don't really care if this thread is hot. I am just trying to provide us (the OC community) with some information about a card. Many people are dogging these cards and have no evidence to do so it is just hearsay. Well this is really info, in a less than top notch PC. Since both cards cost the same maybe this will help some buying the 8800GT make a decision.
As far as benchmarking and gaming I don't know if that is the case. If you look at my 3dMark06 scores it seems that my processor and maybe ram are holding me back. But for the shader test (Canyon Flight and Deep Freeze) I see a difference between 1GB and the 512MB. Also 3dMark does not use more than 250MB of video memory on my card throughout the whole test. So that is why I am using Crysis now. Again I don't know how anyone can say that the 512MB versions are clearly better if there is not enough info about this card out there.
Linskingdom's thread is awesome. I have it posted at the top of the page, not to mention obtained advice from linskingdom. I would like to think I have his/her blessing. Anyways I appreciate you input. If there is anyway you think I can make this thread better let me know.
