Found this helpful as I am looking to upgrade my vid card, but for those that are looking to upgrade their GPU as well and are considering the 8800GTS (g92), you might want to look at these benchmarks. note that the test was done with the 650MHz 9600GT cards.(the least expensive 9600GT)
I'm not sure what i'm gonna do yet. possibly wait for the 9800's to come out, to see how they scale? i dunno..... 8800GTS 512 (G92) $240-$270 per card 9600GT Prices $150-$210 per card Link: http://en.expreview.com/2008/02/23/g...eview/?page=15

Two 8800GTs still outperform two 9600GT in SLi, no matter how well they scale the mildly more powerful 8800GT still comes out on top; which you can now pick up as low as $210. You can get a GTS for only $240 now and it's just about the best performing single GPU card on the market, the Ultra still wins as old as it may be but technically it's not on the market anymore either. 99% of newer games support SLi and it will increase performance but there are still a few games hanging around that perform worse in SLi than they do with a single card. I'll always believe that one powerful card over two less powerful is the best choice. Buy one GTS now and buy another later if you want SLi.
The 9800GTXs will have an MSRP of $299-$349, expect price gouging at launch. Lack of change puts the logical point of 9800GTXs at question when you can get 8800GTS' for cheaper and OC them.

Either way, the HD3870x2 wins out over the Ultra, while being cheaper.

Your arguement is invalid because your comparing two totally different cards. The G80 Ultra is over a year old and outperforms the HD3870, that's a valid comparison: one GPU vs one GPU. Just because nVidia was a little late bringing the GX2 to the table doesn't mean you should go comparing the X2 to old technology that's not even hardly equivalent in structure, and quite honest something that's now discontinued to make way for it's replacement. To be honest I'd rather see more innovation, from both sides, in one card rather than two cards sandwiched together. The 3870X2 has two GPUs therefore should only be compared to an equal card, or cards, and the 9800GX2 falls into this category. But ATi fanboys were so eager to compare to nVidia that they grabbed nVidia's year old, single GPU 8800 Ultra and benchmarked them. If you want a real comparison, compare two G92 GTS' in SLi versus your X2 and see what comes out on top. Compare to things that are equivalent, not things that are in two totally different brackets! (IE: Camaro Z28 VS Cobalt)
Not a fanboy comment, I'm just tired of people comparing two cards that are so totally different! Oh and BTW, 9600GTs in SLi will outperform an X2 in games, heck of alot cheaper too. $300 would get you two 9600GTs and you could spend the excess on an 750i motherboard if you didn't already have an SLi board.
