Either way you won't be happy with those 2 cards you listed, your 7950gt will actually perform better in some games once that 256/320mb barrier is broken.
You're gonna be hard-pressed to find games that a 7950 GT will top a 320mb GTS in. VRAM isnt everything, especially at lower resolutions..

Wait, can you link me to the "bad rep" the 9600GT has been getting? I've heard nothing but positive things about them...

If it were up to me, I would have gotten the 9600GT (which hadn't even been released at the time I bought my 8800GT.)

Who wants to play at a lower res? If you're playing 1680x1050+ with a bunch of graphical options enabled, the fps drops like a rock. The benchmarks are out there, go find em.

My suggestion is this ECS 9600GT 512MB for $149.99.

By your description 1440x900 is a lower res, even though that's the max my monitor can support. So I actually don't want a GPU that is good for 16x80x1050 because I don't even have a monitor that can display it and it would just be a waste of money.

Wait why are you eyeing these two videocards when the 8800gs is cheaper and better than both of them in most benchmarks? The 8800gs also uses the g92 core and that is why it can beat the 8800gt at stock when it is overclocked and let me tell you it can overclock like crazy. I got mine from 580/700 to 750/960, but that is with the xfx one, you can now get the evga for 109.99 with the samsung chips and that could probably go over 1000mhz on the memory.

I have a EVGA 8800GTS SC 320Mb @648/1620/900, the temps stay in the 60's during Gaming at 1440*900. I can play every game Except Crysis Fully maxed out, At 50-60 FPS AVG!! It can even handle some games with 8XAA 16AF.
I am very satisfied with this card. It has served me well for the last year. I'll Prolly hang on to it till I can afford something that can Double its performance for a reasonable price.
I don't think you'll be disappointed with it at that Res.

My 8800gts 320mb (never been overclocked) can play any game I have at max settings, at 1680x1050, except Crysis of course.
Highly recommended.

8800GTS 320. I can play all my games on max at 1440x900. This card has been awesome. And as cheap as they are on newegg, I'm planning on getting another one for SLI.

Of those two choices, the GTS is the best.
But for like $20 more, you can get the 8800GT, which is even better
