the 3850 is newer and supports DX10.1 if that matters to you.
Not to mention less power hungry and probably quieter than a 8800GTS 320.

I dare you to give me an example where DX10.1 is needed or even really desired for anything.... lol.

Yes, the 3850 will consume less power than a G80 8800GTS G80. But, if your PSU is already capable of handling the G80 then that won't matter. (The OP has a 650W Antec True Power, which should be more than enough.)

The G80's coolers are relatively quiet and very effective. The only possible drawback is they are almost all dual-slot coolers. Only if that matters to you.

I don't have time to read other recomendations, but relying on my own experience 320mb 8800GTS is a great card. I run Crysis at medium settings (all stock clocks , read my signature) and I'm more than happy for now. Yes I would like to get anotherone for SLI but this isn't happening anytime soon. (I paid $320 for mine back in August) so you are getting a hell of a deal here.

That's what I suggested, but I think the OP is convinced there's some sort of inherent flaw with the 9600GT or something...

I'll still think about the 3870 though.
Sure, I think there were initially a few problems with a handful of cards. I haven't heard of all these complaints myself actually. Even if you do get a bad card by chance, they're all covered under warranty to at least work properly from the get-go. Any kinks in the design/manufacture are probably worked out by now anyway. But whatever, it's his money.
