First off, plese forgive the trite question. I did research other threads here a bit, but most are from when these cards first debuted. Now that they've been out for a short while, I'd like some opinions about which setup would be better.
2 Two 9800 GTX's in SLI or one 9800GX2? If I bought either setup, they will be the vanilla versions (not SSC, KO, OC or anything). Two GTX's can be had for cheaper than one GX2 from what I've seen, but two cards in SLI is space consuming and produces a lot more heat. Opinions?

I'd go for 1 9800GX2, and OC it. and I'm assuming it'll be eVGA so if you are lucky you migth be able to step-up when nvidia decides to roll out their new cards. also You'd have an upgrade path to quad SLI...

I'd go for whatever one preforms better.
![]() Though if you are willing to wait for rumored cards, then wait a month or four for the GT200s.

from what ive seen 2 9800 gtxs perform better then one GX2 ....and with all the headaches ive been having with quad SLI dont know if thats a good path either....supposedly it just a driver issue.....well see....

I'd have the SLI tbh... It will outdo a single GX2 and sounds better

I say go dual 9800gtx's. Much higher overclocking head room and if you decide to watercool later on or add aftermarket air cooling, you aren't left with searching for some complicated contraption to cool that hell hole of a fire pit gx2. I think you'll realize much better performance with SLI GTX's.

I love it. I'm getting another. They will perform at or just above GX2, and they are prolly around the same price. 299 x 2 = 600. GX2 589.00 or something on newegg. I believe it would be harder to OC the GX2 as well... Well, enough of that, I'm going SLI. I love it. I got 16000 on single card with my quad. RAFFY has SLI and he hit 19/20 k in 3Dmark

I hit 192xx in 3dmark with my set up in xp with quad at 3.75 and cards at 660 / 1500 / 2100.

Thanks all, I see now from here and from Newegg reviews, that the GX2 is a space heater in diguise.
I do like the option of an SLI path though, so it's a tough one. It is the consensus that one GX2 would produce more heat than two GTX's? Thanks, reps for all!
