I keep getting game crashes and everytime get a popup saying that my display driver stopped responding and has recovered. I have the latest drivers installed I don't know why I'm getting these. I kept getting the same errors with my 8600 and now its happening with the 8800. The card isn't even overclocked I only oc'ed it for benching. Any ideas?

Don't Fail Too Hard..
|
I've had this multiple times before and the only thing I did to fix it is by trying loads of drivers until I finally found one that worked. If you have Riva Tuner installed, try uninstalling it and reinstalling it.

I was getting these now and then but I don't know what stopped them. The only things that I've changed since is to load SP1 and to make sure that my fans are always turned up to at least 60% before I game. Those may not have anything to do with it at all and it may still happen but so far so good...maybe I've just been lucky lately. It's a known issue that MS put out an update for (that was included in SP1) but I've heard some people say they're still getting it after installing that packet or SP1.

I had to replace my memory, one of the sticks was bad. Might want to run a memtest and see what you get.

The end is nigh.....

There is no fix.
It is a Vista issue. It happens on both Nvidia and ATI cards. With any drivers ![]() Some are lucky and experience once or twice. Some experience it frequently. There was a windows update that was supposed to resolve the issue but it didn't ![]() I still don't know the 'trigger' to the driver error, it just seems like a random attack to me. But yes, this is a Vista problem and they don't seem in a hurry to fix it unfortunately.

I went into BIOS and disabled "Intel C-State Tech".
Also I set all RAM speeds to Auto even though the motherboard (P5Q-Pro) selects slower speeds than specified on the RAM itself. The video card uses ordinary RAM if its own memory is exhausted as far as I remember. I don't know which of the two above really solved the problem, but now the driver works. Specs: MB:Asus P5Q-Pro, CPU:Intel E8400, RAM:2x2GB Corsair CL4 800MHz, VGA:Asus GeForce 8600 GT Silent 512 MB |

Well thats cool that you found a fix. I just replaced my 8600gt with an 8800gt and I never had the problem again.
