Just did a 3d mark...

score prior to cpu update was about 5303-(5549 over clocked...)

now its at 7725, and about 7925 oc'ed marks

Yup, Tell you what though, having a standing problem and posting about it, V.S. having an anticipated problem, sure seems to get allot more replies allot faster. sure ya you must endure some flaming but the mixed in information between the sarcastic undertones is very valuable nuk nuk.

Very true, I have learned that the hard way durring my time here. Still remember, Patience is extreamily needed when working with a pc, whether it be OCing or modding, or just wanting input, eventually you get some great answers from the guys (and few chicks) in this forum.

Firstly, I've an E521, bought about a year ago.

If you're after CPU temps, I've found HWMonitor finds mine, so maybe it will for you, http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php

I was on a budget and picked up a 8600GTS for my dell, wish i would've afforded a 8800GT, but wasn't as brave as you to consider the GTS.

Nice work making it fit though, never realised how skinny that cpu heatsink is, Always thought that it would be huge given the size of the shroud around it. FYI, my X2 5000+ peaks at 54, idles around 22. Actually I'm of the opinion that the stock cooling works well for this machine.

Didn't fancy making a new topic, but will I be alright with stock 305w supply? given I can get away without having a PCI-E connector in it (works fine, just won't OC). (I do have a PCIE connector in now, to bump my 8600 upto xxx edition speeds. Will my PSU crap out on me?

Anyway, my 8600gts was running hot(84!) so ended up grabbing a VF-1000, and sticking that on. Which was one hell of a squeeze. Kinda wished I got something a little more compact, like a VF-900, but wasn't as tight as your 8800gts was!

To answer your question:
Yes you should have a bigger PSU. The 8600GTS requires 22a on the 12v rail, I doubt your stock Dell PSU can handle that.

Please next time, make your own thread though. Its much more courteous to others .

On 99% of the AMD processors (don't know about the Phenom Quad core however), an acceptable temperature is UP TO 65*C under a full Orthos or Prime95 load. Idle temps don't mean anything. 65*C is the thermal spec for 99% of the AMD processors out today, so that is a safe bet. Others will say 55*C, however that's playing it too safe. You can successfully go up to 65 and do no damage. Anything past 65*C takes some balls of steel.

Voltages (since we're on temps here):
Up to 1.50-1.55v is acceptable on air....given the temperatures allow it. However the less the voltage, the better your overclock.
