I was overclocking my GPU using ATiTool and I believe I got around 419 Mhz Core and 1.21ish Ghz memory without artifacting, temps seemed to be fine. I booted up a little Warcraft III: Frozen Throne, and then decided to run it through 3DMark06. It seemed to be doing great...and then freeze for 2-3 seconds...then it would run again and freeze again. I stopped the benchmark, checked temps and ran ATiTool artifacting for another 10 minutes with no errors, and then turned on 3DMark05 and it crashed my whole computer.
__________________When it booted back up, the clock speeds were back to manufacturer's defaults, and I was going to OC it again and see how it would run Crysis, but I decided to come here and see what was up first. Why did it crash, and when should I know whether it's safe to keep it at certain clock speeds or not, besides artifacting and temperatures?

OC and test one at a time, eliminate the core or mem as the weak link.
Anyway, something was clocked too high.

You can also use the Find Max tools in ATITool to figure out where your crashing is going to occur.

I would say don't use ATITool to do the actually OCing, just use it for stability testing. I prefer Rivatuner for the actual OCing process. And ya, you have to be really gradual, and very exhaustive with your stability testing.
