I know it's an obvious thing, but have you made sure your PCI-e power plug is connected properly?

If you run GPU-Z, and look at the Bus Interface, make sure it says PCI-E 2 x16 @ x16. If it says @ x 8 or x 4 or x 2 etc, its not running at full speed. If so, I've read of 2 fixes, one, adjust PCI-E bus speeed in BIOS to somewhere between 100 and 105 or two, to adjust your Northbridge voltage up a bit. First fix seems most common.

Okay, the problem has solved itself.

I wanted to do a before and after check with the GeForce drivers, so I installed GPU-Z and Rivatuner, bumped all fans in the PC to 100%. (Noise is acceptable, playing with headphones any way) and ran 3Dmark06, and scored ~8830. I noticed it staggered primarily on the CPU load tests.

I got suspicious, as that was a decent score, o I open up TF2 and sure enough, I am running 75 FPS at 16xAA, 8xAnistropic and all other settings on high (looks beautiful, might I add).

The game I ran yesterdaym to see the graphical performance of TF2, I hosted myself in order to play undisturbed. This would I suppose tax the CPU more. That sounds plausible, but still doesn't explain why FarCry was acting up but performing beautifully today.

Temps are from idle to load:
CPU 31* - 49*
GPU 41* - 54*

Ambient hovers around 38* on idle, forgot to check on load.

So could the card have been overheating on stock set-up of fan speeds? Seems unlikely to me, but what do I know.

Damn photobucket!!!! oh well it is maxed (with 16xQ CSAA with 16x AF at 1920x1200) and the screenie says 180fps. (I put vertical sync on in game)

To OP:

Be sure to overclock your processor. With a 9600GT at your settings, your proc is probably holding back your FPS a bit, and even with your high frame rates, TF2 can occassionally get choppy when lots of action is on the screen. Even my Q6600 @ 2.4GHz will drop my FPS from about 90 to about 25 momentarily at times in TF2. When I play @3.40GHz though, the choppyness abates completely.

Just a thought.

If I just up the multiplier on the CPU, I wont have to deal with any other settings than core voltage, right?

It currently at 7, with 333 mhz, so I figured I would bump it to 9 or 10. ANy suggestions on voltages?

unforutantly, you can up the multipler on your CPU, you have to do it manually by uping the FSB, this also raises your ram speed so you might have to down clock the ram to even it out.

So you want to clock your CPU 3ghz+ Try it on stock voltage first to see if its stable. It should work. On 3.33ghz though, you might need to up the voltage to 1.3v ish.

While I know it's 'wrong' im just gonna start by bumping to 3.2 GHz. My ASUS mobo should be able to shut down in case of overheating, right?

I'm not with my PC till late tonight, but will post my progress.

So if I understand you right, I could theoretically take it to 3.2 without worrying about anything other than vcore? i Was thinking 400 MHz FSB * 8 Multiplier, whih would place my RAM at 800 Mhz at a 1:1 ratio, bump vcore a notch and run memory at stock voltage (i think it's at 667 mhz right now so it really is unerclocked.)

Is it possible to push memory beyond it's rated spec?
