Default Low Heat Video Card

My friend is currently looking for a low heat-producing video card for under $150.

Here is the story. He received a Gateway for Christmas. It only had integrated video on it so he bought a BFG 6600 GT in order to play his games. Now, about a year later, the card is suffering from heat damage. He told me that he had been seeing weird artifacts while in 32 bit mode. In 16 bit mode the artifacts disappear. I had him run a low-graphical game on it with some temperature monitoring tools. The card easily reached 110C in a matter of 30 seconds. The conclusion was heat damage.

Since he doesn't have the kind of money to buy a new case and a new card at the same time, he just wants a new card. So, if anyone knows a good card that can get rid of the heat and not produce much, I would be thankful if you let me know a good card for him.

And yes, I've already told him them they should of let me build it instead of getting a Gateway. I built another pc for another friend of mine and it runs perfectly to this day.

What model is that Gateway? It shouldn't have issues with any mid range cards.
