I don't believe stories of it being damaging, as I've run multiple 8800GTs and GTS 512s at or beyond that speed, under frequent high load, for extended periods of time.

However, im my experience, those 8800GTs and GTS 512s with Qimonda memory (which is the vast majority of them), will not be 100% stable (looping 3dmark 2003) past 999MHz on the memory.

Also, you generally cannot set exactly 1000MHz. The cards have a reference clock of 27MHz, and the nearest multiplier it can use will put the memory at 999MHz, or several MHz past 1000.

i run my 8800s GTSs at 770/1800/1050 24/7 and never have a problem at all. so the stories is crap.

The problem with the 1,000 mark on the Ram was a lot of people just couldn't pass it while the card remaining stable (if I remember correctly). I believe my card was one of those that topped out at 1,000 on the memory.

Now, if your card passes that point and doesn't artifact or have heat problems, you really shouldn't have anything to be worried about. And worse case, you have an EVGA (lifetime warranties come in handy

).
