Default SLI vs. XFire... the showdown....

I have used SLI in the past and liked it. Never used XFire though. I know that SLI has faster speeds, but ATI cards are CHEAP!

What would you recommend?

By the way its not called Xfire its called Crossfire .
The 4850 would be a good choice at the moment since its cheap and it has performance.

CrossFire, mainly because to use SLi you have to buy an Nvidia chipset. With CrossFire, you can get an Intel or AMD chipset. Also, alot of the benchmarks i've seen have shown 4850s Crossfire scaling better than GTX260s SLi, although it depends on what game/app your running. Not to mention the 4800 series is still killing the GTX200 series in price/performance

Depends on which cards you're going for, really. The 4870's are the best bang for your buck right now (as stated above). However, that may change when the 4870x2 is released at the end of this month.

The intel chipsets are nice, just be careful because some (like the P45) can only run in x16 x8 mode with crossfire, which will decrease your performance by 5-15%. The X38/X48 chipsets are great for crossfire (they run x16 x16), but are a slightly more pricey.

Plus, XFire is a messaging app...could get confusing I suppose.

With the current prices of ATI cards, crossfire is the way to go. Also, intel chipsets are usually better overclockers, which is another bonus.

from what i have seen crossfire seems to scale better than sli, i love my cf setup i dont think ill ever run a single card again.

also drivers play a big part when i first bought these cards i was almost disappointed but every single ccc driver release has improved performance and thats about once a month, 8.5 - 8.6 i got over 1k more pts in 3dmark vantage @ stock gpu speeds
