I'd say stick with the 9800GX2; it performs well and you've already spent the money on it, so why spend more now. Save up and buy a new card in a year.

I'm in the same boat, and I'm stepping up. SLI sucks to me at the moment. Doesn't seem too many games are optimized to use it and I get all kinds of micro stutters with my GX2. Right now, since the MSRP dropped to 499 on the 280, all you have to pay is shipping. It's a better card, I don't know why you wouldn't at this point. It's an upgrade, without paying for an upgrade.

I agree with what everyone is saying, I just don't want to be stuck with a very outdated card in 6+ months. I can see this going down 2 ways in the future:
1) I keep the 9800 gx2 and save up for a new card 2)I step up and get the GTX 280 and later on just SLI when the prices go down So far the comments have been 50/50....I'm still on the fence. I need ur help guys! PS: Thanks for everyone who has responded. The feedback has been very helpful.

I'm saying this...
__________________I own a eVGA 9800GX2 SSC Special.. Paied $549 on NewEgg.. Right Now, I can get a GTX 280 for only $7.07 <--JUST SHIPPING... I love my GX2 I really do, shes fast, shes good and she knows how to treat a man ![]() ^^^ some1 please put that in a sig, my best quote evea!! ^^^ Anyways, The QUAD SLi is crap for the GX2 atm, after reading reviews, watching Reviews. The GX2 and Quad, is just NOT THERE! Maybe, in a few months, better drivers.. Who knows. But it's not there. Get the GTX280 , if you want to SLi or TRI-SLi.. Watch some Maxishine Video Review, of the 4 side by side comparison video (GX2, GTX, GTX280,The ATI card). The GTX 280 wins by a few FPS in some games, then the GX2 wins in others. So sorry to say, but it's really all up to you... My choice, since I'm in the same boat, in 69 days my Step-Up is done, so around 60 days, see how the drivers are.. If they look good, I'll stay GX2 and go QUAD, if not..I get GTX280. Since u need a answer quick... I can't tell you I'm sorry, I love the GX2 too much to bash it.. I see you have 740 clock? You on just AIRcooling?

Thanks for the great reply Kilrbe3! Exactly what I'm looking for.
Ya, I'm actually in the exact same boat as you. I checked my step up and I have around 68 days for a step up. I will probably do the same as you and wait to see unless somebody comes up with a reason to step up now. Ya, i'm on aircooling (7x120mm fans, 80mm top exhaust). Usually hit around 80c (ambient 23c) during gaming with 100% fan. Fan is way too loud during normal use so I just have another profile with stock settings and 50% fan. I could probably go higher on this card if I had better cooling.

Actually I initially had the memory clock up around 1090 and I was getting crazy artifacts so I backed it down quite a bit. I found that with the memory clock around 1050, the sky was the limit with the core clock (with shader clock linked). I see that you're at 1073. Try backing it down a notch and upping the core clock. That should help
