Hey guys,
So I just got my 9800 gx2 in the past month. I got it because it was $449 and outperformed the $700 GTX 280. Now that ATI has forced the GTX 280's price down to $499, I am considering stepping up and paying the difference. I know that the GTX 280 will not perform as well as the 9800 gx2 but I would have the option in the future to SLI, something that would be worthless with the 9800 gx2. Another motivation is that right now I am gaming at 1680x1050 and I don't think I would see a performance dip if I switched to the GTX 280. I do plan to move to a bigger screen resolution in the future, but that's why I would SLI. What do you guys think? Would it be worth it? PS: I admit that the 4870x2 would be a good choice but I don't feel like going through the hassle of selling the 9800 gx2, especially since I wouldn't get anywhere near as much as I paid for it. So ATI is out of the question.

after watching the maxishine showdown, I would probably just keep the GX2 and ride it until something new and truly better comes out.

I agree as well. The differences between the two cards in performance is really minimal.

In terms of average frame rates they are about equal, meaning that the end GTX 280 wins some, GX2 wins others, though GTX 280 does tend to have higher minimum frame rates, which in my experience means smoother gameplay (less stuttering). Also, some games don't scale well with GX2, with the GTX 280 you won't have that problem.

Actually I'd probably wait since rumor has it that a 55nm GT200 is coming soon.

I wouldn't. Its not worth the upgrade. The only thing that would likely be a upgrade would be going to the Radeon 4870 X2 but you have a SLI motherboard...

^^^^ Ya, I figured that was my best option. Too bad I got the SLI Board.
I know that one 9800 gx2 does not equal one GTX 280, but should I just stick with the 9800 gx2 and let the step up run out or upgrade before it's too late??
