Default GTX 280 weak??

I recently built a gaming rig...I've hit a brick wall though. I use to have a 8800gt, but just last week i went and bought the monster that is the BFG GTX280.
However when I run 3dmark06 my scores are 50 points less than that of the 8800gt. My total score is only 12,500. I think with my setup I'd get much better than that(but i could be wrong?) Here's whats in my rig:

Q6600 quadcore cpu
Gigabyte x48-DQ6
4gbs OCZ 1066 ram
BFG GTX280
Antec 650 power supply
Samsung 750gb HD 32mb cache

I dont know where to go from here, I'm hoping you guys can point me in the right direction. Thanks!

1)make sure you have all the right drivers, and use something like drivercleanerpro to completely get rid of your old drivers.

2)is your q6600 overclocked? to reach the gtx 280's full power it should be above 3.2

3) WELCOME TO OCN!! you can also fill in your system specs under usercp so it appears in your signature like mine

On top of that your CPU MIGHT be the limiting factor. I mean bottleneck. My E6600 was limiting my score so thats why I say that.

Make sure the GTX280 gets sufficient power, performance problems can come from lack of amps on the 12V rail

I'm leaning towards the CPU bottle necking the machine.

I did have the Q6600 upto 2.7ghz, but since I put the GTX280 in there its causing too much heat, I have 4 fans in the case, and a Zalman CPU cooler. With OCCT running its pushing the CPU temps upto 70 deg C and thats just with stock clock speeds, so i'm at 2.4ghz.

I know the Power Supply is okay, I have 64 amps avaliable for video and the GTX only wants 42.

I'll be posting 3dmark scores and CPU-Z in just a minute here.

How are you sure the PSU is okay? is it single rail? If your CPU is sharing that 64 amps, it might take more than the 20 amps thats left over and could cause problems

Can you please post a direct link to it?

Also I have read lately that 3DM06 has bugs with the GTX280 in where it gets like 2/3's the score it should, but your score is unusually low

EDIT
+3.3V@24A,+5V@24A,+12V1@22A,+12V2@22A,+12V3@25A, -12V@0.5A,+5VSB@3.0A

These are the stats for the best 650W PSU I found from Antec... NONE of them have 42 amps per 12V Rail effectively making it useless garbage for a GTX 280.

i would like to see what PSU you have as well. GTX280's aren't known for drawing little amounts of power.

Yeah the Q6600 needs to be at 3.2ghz or better but 3.6ghz to 4.0ghz would be the best.Since the cpu is the bottle neck on these bad boys.My scores dam near doubled after overclocking my Q6600 to 3.4ghz .(I hope i can get t it stable at 3.8ghz like i ran it on my P5K) with my two GTX260'
