Default Graphics Card Help

I want to know what you can use to estimate a graphics card capability...

How does 'Core Clock' affect FPS and the cards performance...
How does 'Memory Clock' affect FPS and the cards performance..

When does the VRAM become a diminishing factor, after what ammount is it not making a huge price/performance range % increase start to lessen.

If you know what I'm saying and can make a good reply to this, much appreciated! I'm thinking this sort of a explanation is helpful for everyone

each are radically different from each other. IMO these are the most important...

bus bandwidth
bus width
memory speed

but...
core clock- (means to me) the rate that every component on the card is tied to
memory clock- memory refresh rate
memory size- the amount of textures to be drawn

overall I'm no expert on graphics (as you can see!)

AFAIK
Core clock plays the biggest role in increasing FPS.
The amount of memory plays a larger role in higher resolutions. If you have, say an 8800GT 512MB and an 8800GT 1GB, most of the results will be the same at res's like 1280x1024, 1680x1050. But at higher res's like 1920x1200 and 2560x1600 the 1GB will pull ahead.

Also not to mention, the more memory is also used (other than resolution) in order to load up more textures and polygons etc to put the textures on. Also if you have a higher memory clock, that means that it can create and delete those textures and polygons faster, and maintain them faster. If you need more help with stuff more specific, then just ask me and Ill post some more. (By the way, core clock is really like a processor inside a regular comp, just for the graphics card )

The "Core Clock" is your GPU's ability to process and render polygons. The higher the better. If you can render polygons faster, the better your game FPS rate.

Memory Clock is about your video card's processing speed for instructions from the application it's processing. The faster the better. It also helps in processing textures on polygons and removing them from polygons that are no longer relevant in your current game. Larger video RAM also applies to higher resolutions. More VRAM results in larger textures in higher resolutions running better. High resolutions on low amounts of RAM suffer as they cannot buffer the texture memory accordingly. I hope this helps you.

While everyone else seems to have explained those things one thing to remember is that:

Specification mean nothing.

A card could have more Stream Processors, more VRAM, and have higher clocks but still perform worse then another.

Look at benchmarks when comparing GPUs, never the specifications.
