Hi guys. I was wondering, when u overclock any graphic card, in my case 9600 GT, i suppose u use ATI Tool to check if there's any artifacts, do u set the lowest value on artifacts scanning scale and then overclock until there is no any eye-visible artifacts on the screen or something else?
__________________Because i overclock my 9600GT OC from 700/1750/1900 to 707/1767/1900 and its ok, if i oveclock a tiny bit 1Mhz core more, when i click scan artifacts, in the first 2 secs i see some yellow dots appearing in ati tool 3d screen, but the program it self says no error for xxx secons. Is this ok, or should i oveclock until ati tools reports an error?

If you see artifacts i would stop, the program is not perfect at detecting errors you need to use your eyes to see if everything is okay too, you dont want yellow dots on your screen while gaming i hope.

I tried OC'ing once and using ATiTool (on a friends comp). I took at 10mhz jump up to like 740core on an 8600GT and it suddenly giant yellow blocks popped up in artifact scan, but ATi Tool didn't catch them...
__________________ seems there are serious deficencies in the artifact catcher, unless its allright to OC until Tool catches it.

As far as the 'jumping' clock speeds go, most OC programs don't read the gpu speed or straps correctly. Use the 'Monitoring' function in Rivatuner to display the GPU temp and actual clock speed and shader speeds. *GPU's are strapped, just like mobo's. So speed changes in spurts.. shader clocks for example only change ~every 50mhz or so, and core speeds move in increments of ~5mhz as well as memory. Dont be fooled be what other programs are showing you, they are not correct.

I would use riva tuner. I've tried installing it before. It says: "Riva tuner statistics server is currently active, installation process will be aborted!". So im stuck witg eVGA precision.

yes please. toying with my EVGA 9600GT and I bumped up the speeds in increments of ~50 mhz. When I opened atitool and tried the artifact scan, instant black screen and my monitor went to sleep.
Whats up with that?

so atitool is not mandatory when overclocking a GPU? and no everything is unlinked.
