Default 8800GTS should I go 9800GTX

ok so my friend build his PC..

well, I built it for him, he had no idea.

And now he finds out hes broke and doesnt have enough money, so hes gonna sell it by parts.

I got him the PNY 9800GTX 512mb, he wants to sell everything on ebay, but since hes gonna use my account to do it, im sure I can get the 9800GTX for around 140-150.

So my question is, is it worth to upgrade? I have a 8800GTS with a q9450 @ 3.0, and 4gb of ram (3.5 in XP).

Would it do ALOT of diff, or just minor, not worth spending $150 for it..

What do u guys think?

and btw, the card is only ... 2 weeks old ? if.

My score on 3dmark > 14111
he has e8400 + 2gb ram +9800gtx > 12.8

If you're talking about the 8800GTS 512MB (G92) in your sig rig....then upgrading to a 9800GTX would make almost no difference at all (except the model number). They are both G92 cores with 128 SP's, 256bit bus, 512MB. The only difference is the clock speeds, and they are both VERY similar even there. You would see MAYBE 1% improvement MAYBE, if you're lucky. It would NOT be worth the money to do this "upgrade", as you're buying basically the exact same card you already own.

I agree and if your only gaming at the rez in your sig I say it wouldn't be worth it. I know this is the NV forum but 4850 prices are aproaching 150 after mir, which is pretty much on par with the performance of the 9800GTX, plus you would obviously have the option to crossfire in the future w/ your x48 board.

Seconded.

To OP, don't fall for the naming scheme over at Nvidia. You should be fine with your GTS especially at that resolution.

Well yes and no. Please see my post above .

9800GTX = lightly overclocked 8800GTS 512MB.
