Default how easy is running 2 x 9600GT's?

hi there everyone, ive just purchased an ASUS crossfire mobo, and a second 9600GT, ive never had any experience running 2 cards SLi. is it easy? do i need any special gear? ive bought them to get my folding PPD up, surely twin overclocked 9600's will tare through the points? im getting about 4500 with my single 9600. cheers for any advice!

Well there could be an issue here. I hope you meant to say I bought a Asus sli board if not you cannot run sli on an Intel chip. You should be able to run one for graphics and have the other fold i think.

Yeah, it's pretty difficult running 2 9600GTs on a Crossfire board.

If it's an Asus Crosshair board with a 590 SLI chipset though, not too tough. You install the drivers for the second card, then enable SLI in the Nvidia control panel.

No personal experience with the Crosshair, but a good 590a SLI board should work out just fine for you. As I understand, the 590 and 680 are very similar. I haven't had any problems with my 680i board.

SLI cannot be enabled to fold on both

each card has to fold individually.

or fold with the second and use the first to play games, etc.

That wouldn't work out so well, GPU folding also uses a fair amount of CPU resources.

turning off smp...

EDIT: new cores are quite different but it still doesn't use much
