In 3 months I think it will drop, no? :P The reason I considered the 9800 is for the great price. Hrm..

Same. But EVGA doesn't drop their prices. They sell everything at the initial MSRP.

The 8800GT will certainly be a huge improvement over the 7600GT, but I learned with the 3850 that its certainly worth it to pay even an extra $20. I'm selling it for $75 and very happy to get that much, after paying $220 total last December.

I don't see the 9800GTX+ dropping more than $10 in the next 3 months, although with ATI planning on releasing a new card to fill the gap between the 4670 and 4850 I can see the resale value of the 8800 dropping fast.

I have a 19" at 1280x1024 and my 4850 kills everything.

if you can afford $150 then definetly go for it. it will last longer than 8800gt

I'm getting my hands on the 9800GTX+ ASAP! Probably by Saturday. I've never really had a card that could be considered good before. Sure, the x850xt PE was the fastest card in the world at one point, but I didn't get mine until 2 years later. And sure at the time my 3850 was considered an enthusiast card, but it was still the 256mb version.

The 9800GTX+ has enough power to game at 1650x1080 easily and its high end enough to make sure it will last a long time. If I got the 8800GT I just don't think it would last long enough. This way I think I'll finally, after I get my e5200 (which is only $95 on NCIX right now!), be able to upgrade my monitor to a decent 22"!

I can afford it, no problem. I'd rather get something that will last me till my next big upgrade than something that wont run the top games in a year from now. Hence the decision.

Thanks for the input nathris, I'm kinda feeling the same way, and at these prices I'm not too concerned.

Still gotta see about the CPU for me though!

Arg, no 9800gtx+ to be found at any futureshop store or online. Seems the people of toronto aren't as dumb as I assumed.

Are you saying that they are just out of stock, or that the website said it was in stock but they didn't have any?

Flat out of stock on the evga 9800gtx+ in all stores but ajax apparently - even the warehouse and online stoc were gone. They had a bfg 9800gtx+ but that was $250, so eff that. Also the BFG 8800gt was out of stock at $99. The EVGA 8800GT jumped from $120 to $216 as well. I'm just waiting on the stores to restock them, but they don't know when that will be.
