Default 19" Monitor, card decision?

Seems to be a good sale on futureshop, I can nab a evga 8800gt for CAD$120, and a evga 9800gtx+ for CAD$179.

I run a 19" LCD and a 17" CRT, what would you guys suggest? I can also get SLI 8800GT's as well, if that's a better option.

wait for the BFG 8800 GT's to go on sale for $99, and SLI them if you want, although for a 19" monitor, all you really need is one 8800 GT... a 9800 GTX+ would certainly be nice, but you don't really need it at the resolution that you play at

Was thinking the EVGA step-up would be nice, but you are right on that. I don't intend to change my monitor for the next little while, though it may be an option in a year and a half or so (upped to a single 24" or something).

Always owned BFG cards and I love them, only reason I would buy evga is for the step-up.

I do plan on getting some real games though soon, I want to be able to run them maxed out on my 1280x1024 res without any problems.

ah yes, true... now that I think about it, paying the extra $30 for EVGA's step up program isn't so bad... plus their customer service, I find, is slightly better than BFG's... unless you are sure that you will not upgrade in 90 days, go with the EVGA.. plus they look cooler

I'm a sucker for good lucks, of course. I just updated that post too. I think I will go with the evga GT and then step-up in 90 days. Do you suppose it would be wetter to wait a bit longer though, are there any sufficient price drops coming?

8800gt will be fine. I play on a 19" widescreen with a 8800 and everything runs great. COD4 never drops below 60, even with smoke grenades, stun grenades, airstrikes, etc. 8800gt is the way to go.

well, the 8800 GT won't drop too much in price anymore... but if you really aren't sure, you could take advantage of Futureshop's return policy and return it after 30 days, buy a new one and you have another 30 days there... lol

Think I'll do that. I'll buy it, test some games on it, hold it for 90 days if I like it, then step up. Thanks guys!

Hey we're in the same boat! Thats actually pretty good idea too. Just a note though: if you want to step up, the 9800GTX+ is $199USD, which is $213CDN, $33 more than the Futureshop one.
