I've heard many many many stories about the 280 having problems. and hardly any about the 260.

I almost think the 280 is to much and not safe. and that the 260 is just perfect.

I love my GTX260 and I can safely clock it to 740 MHz core and run 3Dmark06 with no problems.
I dunno if you read my previous post or not, but I absolutely agree. And the new 260 core 216 is even better due to lower temps. I have yet to see the load temps go beyond 61c compared to my original GTX260's average load temps of 82c. I believe it is due to lower voltage settings.

Default Final Overclock

I just finished another test runs and I reached a new overclock.

At first, I thought the card kept freezing on me under Furmark, so I thought I had reached the limit at 735 Core - 1566 Shader - 1224 Memory.

But, I discovered that it was actually my OC setup, which kept freezing my system.

I adjusted the bios and now, I was able to reach a new high benchmark. After doing some research, I think I ended up with a "golden" card.

My new OC setup, perfectly stable after 2hr gaming test and 1hr Furmark test, is:

756 Core
1566 Shader
1323 Memory

I am pretty sure that this is the highest OC I have ever seen from any users...

This allowed me to reach another 200pt increase in 3DMark06 and 3-5fps increase in all my games.

Now, I am sure that this card can match or beat any GTX280 posted. Correct me if I am wrong...

See my screen shot.

You should first monitor your temperatures using something like GPU-Z. That way you have an idea as to how high your overclock might go before reaching a temperature "wall" if you will.

Then you will need to test your card with furmark or other stress testers (I am given to understand that 3dmark06's Firefly test is still one of the most demanding out there) to ensure no artifacting or other strange things are occurring.

It's not so much the temps, since my temps never goes up past 60c with fans set on 70%. I think that these cards are capped by the voltage limitations. Without doing a volt mod, it's about as high as I can go.

Quick update:

I am switching to i7 setup as soon as my DDR3s arrives tomorrow. I already bought another identical card to be run as SLI, so I will be posting results very soon. Also, I am going to be moving my current setup to a new case, with a Sapphire Vapor X 4890 (For now, until I go crossfire in the next couple of weeks), so I can do a direct comparisons.
