Default How well does an 8800GTS 512mb overclock?

Hi I just upgraded from an 8800gt to an XFX 8800GTS and I just want to know some examples on how far some of you 8800GTS users have overclocked your cards. Also fill me in, if you can, on what's the safe voltage to overvoltage by if I were to do a BIOS volt mod? Thanks in advance.

There's threads all over these forums for good OC's, but I don't mind filling in. After modifying the heatsink contact my GTS could achieve stable 790_1998_2300. For suicide runs it'd hit 800_1998_2400 which would cut it for suicide benchies, 3DMark06 14165 at one point at default settings. All other apps would crash though This at 100% fan and temps usually right under 80C. Keep the fan ramped up and it'll clock like a beast.

Not sure on the BIOS changes, I'm weary of doing that and I think the benefits to risk ratio is not worth it.

I had a stable OC on my first 8800GTS, it was the same model as you at 805/Linked/2000 it did everything I needed it to do without artifacts, but maybe it'll be further or less, there is a lot of headroom, then I got SLI and just went to stock

100% fan kept it at about 70C after long use (two hours+ of Lost Planet)

They OC insanely well.

Stock:
678/1700/1944

24/7 OC:
820/2020/2240 -100% fan.

Max OC:
850/2100/2300 -100% fan.

Doesn't load beyond 60c regardless of listed clocks, think thats mainly down to my case cooling though.. Nevertheless I was well impressed. Also, when you get oc'd you should drop by this thread http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/3371...-round-up.html .

Thank you all for your time and effort, i really appreciate it. I'm currently waiting to RMA my motherboard but, when it comes back, now i'll have some references on where to start overclocking from. Thanks again everyone, and anyone else feel free to keep adding, it'll really help me out.

My gts 512 hit 775/1900/2100 on stock cooling with fan at 50%. It was a pretty nice card and blew away my 2900 I had before it.

I would've kept the 8800GT as there's almost no diffrence at all in games, benchies ext.
And in some cases the 8800GT pulls ahead of the GTS.

The 8800GT is just shy of a GTS in all areas, I know cause I've compared both GT and GTS in my sig rig. Once the GTS has been OC'd the gap widens even more as the GT is just not capable of such overclocks which rival 9800GTX oc's.

It's overclockability put it in direct competition imo with the 9800GTX the GT just isn't capable of that, at first it seemed pretty much pointless to pick up a 9800GTX over a GTS.

Thus GTS ftw, especially with pricing these days theres no point to buying a GT I'd even take a GTS over a 9800GT for obvious renaming reasons.
