Default amount of memory and performance?

I have 512mb of pc3200 memory. I recently ordered another 512mb. my question is how much the amount of memory affect my 3d performance. as far as benchmark scores 3dmark 03 and 05 and in games such as hl2 or far cry. I have xp-2500 oc to 2.28ghz, 6800gt on msi k4ultra board.

It probably won't change the benchmarks but you will notice less loading in games.

It really depends on which game you're playing. Games like doom and UT2k4 take up alot of ram, and you'll see a difference in loading times, as well as no system lag at the beggining of maps, or when shut down the game.

looking through other forums, most people advise that adding ram to a otherwise decent setup(xp-2500 oc 2.28ghz xfx 6800gt) would make the computer run much faster. Will it just decrease my loading time on the game or will it increase my framerates in some games?
